Fire system servicing and maintenance

Regular service and maintenance of your fire detection and alarm system is of critical importance and a requirement in order to maintain a compliant fire alarm system. Beyond this, by regularly carrying out our preventative maintenance you will help to ensure its reliability while reducing false alarms and potential downtime. Proper servicing will extend the working life of your equipment, saving money on corrective maintenance in the long term.

How often do you need to check your fire alarms

According to government regulations, commercial fire alarms should be tested weekly to ensure the system is safe and ready for an emergency. This should be performed by a competent person or someone who a competent individual has trained in the company.

BS 5839 states that an accredited professional such as our expert engineers must service and inspect business fire alarms every 6 months.

What does fire system maintenance entail?

For the provision of maintenance services, Sygma Fire will allocate 1x lead engineer to each site who will be the responsible engineer for the ongoing maintenance visits. They will conduct a variety of tasks whilst on site, including:

  • The Main Control Indicating Panel and Power Supplies are checked for correct operation, including any standby batteries that have been installed.
  • Firmware and software updates checked and managed.
  • Automatic Detectors, Manual Call-points, Beams and Air Sampling and other devices interfaced with the system are tested via specialised smoke testing units. Each sensor, when activated, should then operate with the correct device label information and zone indication. This is repeated on each automatic and manual detection device.
  • Any programmable Relay units installed (I/O Units) are also tested for correct operation.
  • During a complete simulated fire condition, all Sounder Units are tested for decibel levels within their locality and inspected for signs of wear and tear and/or damage.
  • Battery charge check of all ancillary devices (VESDA systems, Beams etc.)
  • Remote monitoring signal check
  • Record all ongoing maintenance in the local panel logbook.
